Art Magazines Available in the Library

Coleg Llandrillo library subscribes to a number of art related journals, including Art World, a bi-monthly magazine that covers contemporary art, focusing on the work of emerging and established artists; providing an opportunity, for artists, curators and gallerists to everyone who is interested in contemporary art.

Artist and Illustrator is another magazine available in the library that is published each month. This magazine contains articles, interviews, behind the scenes studio  guides and the latest exhibition news, along with practical help and technical advice.

For students of photography we subscribe to the British journal of Photography and Amateur Photographer. The BJP is aimed at professional and aspiring photographers, with news, technical reviews, interviews with leading photographers, book reviews, shows, competitions and awards.

Amateur Photographer is the so called Bible of for both amateur and professional enthusiasts which has news, views and reviews, testing of technical equipment, readers gallery and a section on icons of photography.

 

Ceramic Review is the international magazine of ceramic art and craft that is read by potters, collectors, enthusiasts, students, teachers, critics, gallery owners, artists and designers for its mix of practical and critical features on all aspects of ceramic art.

Design week is used by 35,000 design professionals and covers breaking news within the design world and showcases the best new international work. The magazine covers a wide spectrum of design disciplines, including, retail and  product packaging, graphic design, interior design and exhibitions.

Business Review

Business Review covers key concepts and topics at AS and A2 level, written by experienced authors, teachers and examiners. Each article places theory in real-life context and address the key specification areas of marketing, finance, people, operations, the external environment and objectives and strategy.

The latest copy of Business Review can be found in the library on the journal display area by The Higher Education Base Room. The latest issues are not available for loan, but back copies can be taken out on a seven day loan period, along with the option to renew. Back issues are also available online through Infotrac, the online journals database. These can be accessed through the college application launcher under Multimedia & Reference/Online Reference/Online Newspapers and Infotrac onfile. Alternatively, they can be accessed from home by filling in an Athens from the library. For further information ask at the library counter or post your comments on the blog.

History of the Holocaust

There is a lot of material on the internet that covers the holocaust, but which sites would be most useful to learners? Dr Raphael Gross, director of the Jewish Museum in Frankfurt surveyed many of the major sites on the internet on the holocaust and found those aimed at youngsters were the most structured and useful.

History-of-the-Holocaust.org is one of the sites surveyed, which Dr Raphael Gross said “gives a lot of information through its archive and library, though students will need good teachers to guide them and help them use the page”.

The library themes cover the forging of the Nazi state, its imagery, economics and path to war. The Anti-Jewish Policy and the fate of German Jews are also covered.

This web page, hosted by a collective of psychology-related information sites, provides an arena for A-level psychologists in particular to further their knowledge of basic theoretical and research-related concepts in psychology. The site includes a glossary, a book store, links to news feeds, and individual articles on topics such as Asperger’s syndrome. This site should be useful for teachers and A-Level Psychology students.

Tree Hugger

Treehugger is not something Hippies and New Agers get up to in their local parks and woodlands, but an excellent web site that has accumulated over 13,000 eco-based articles, adding new articles every day. The content is divided into eight categories, including Science and Technology, Travel and Nature, Fashion and beauty and Food and Health.

Treehugger contains quality articles written by specialists in their fields, including entrepreneurs, architects and publishers. You can be genuinely interactive with this site where anyone can post their own green news and have them viewed and aired within a lively forum. Treehugger also contains a section of green buying guides that includes computers, furniture and clothing.
