E-Books – Is it the Final Chapter?

Posted by LibeRaCe on February 27, 2009

Last week an interesting article appeared in the TES (Times Educational Supplement) Magazine about the increasing popularity of e-books and the future of the printed book. As you  may know, Llandrillo library has for a while purchased e-books, which has been welcomed by most students and staff, but some people are still reluctant to use them. This may due to the fact that some people like to have something that is familiar and tangible in-front of them, or they may feel its time consuming logging into a computer and then into an online educational database like Athens. According to this article we may have reached a tipping point, with the result that the majority of schools and colleges will now be using e-books and online learning platforms. Click on the image to read the article.

TesTo access e-books from the college library you will need to fill in an Athens form, which will allow you to access our online resources from home. Guides on how to use the e-book resources can be found on Moodle under Library & IT Workshop/Library & Information /skills.

Afghanistan-What do you know?

Posted by LibeRaCe on February 13, 2009

Where does your information on Afghanistan come from? Probably from the British media, TV, Newspapers and the Internet. How often do we hear the voice of the four major tribal people that inhabit Afghanistan? Or the lesser known tribes for that matter. Possibly, we may hear their opinions on the occasional Channel Four documentary.

What is the difference between these two web sites and what do they have to say about the people of Afghanistan and their views on the government and running of their country. We just hear of the Taliban, Al-Qaeda, opium and the battle for Helmand, but Afghanistan has many qualities!
