The National Archives, the UK government’s official archive, containing over 900 years of history have made a selection of their images available through Flickr to give some idea of the material they retain.
There are some fantastic images ranging from Jane Austens will, to The Big Three at Yalta (Churchill, Roosevelt & Stalin), Medieval manuscripts to Whitley Bay posters, maps, plans, seals & artifacts and all are in the Creative Commons with no known copyright restrictions. What about the US National Archive phototream? An amazing collection from the American Civil War to photodocumentaries of everyday life in the 1970′s.
You can comment on the pictures and make copies of them so why not have a look?

Students can already share their opinions and favourite/most hated reads in the Blog Off and Read! group on Moodle.
BUT
Would you like to meet up with other like-minded students on a regular basis to chat about the ‘read of the week’ and share ideas face to face?
Is that a YES!?!
Well then, you’ll need to contact our Senior Information officer Pat Hebron and she’ll do the rest.

Skillscymru, which takes place at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, will mark the start of a year-long programme of events and activities taking place across the UK in the run up to WorldSkills London 2011. It is being hosted by the Welsh Assembly Government, which is also a Partner of WorldSkills London 2011, as part of its commitment to raise skills levels throughout Wales. Simon Bartley, chief executive of UK Skills, talks in more detail about the event here. SkillsCymru will also have a huge selection of interactive learning experiences for visitors and a fantastic group of inspirational speakers.

The World Skills competition itself takes place on the 5th-8th October 2011 in London. Their interactive website is already live. Click on the scrolling skills list to access videos and links to career information. You can choose your national flag and get up dates on that country’s competitors. Check in with the site regularly to watch the ‘Focus On’ series of videos about specific career choices.
Students from Coleg Llandrillo have a fantastic reputation for achieving awards at the UK Skills and World Skills events. Talk to your tutor about how to get involved.
