New UK Equality Law Act 2010

Posted by LibeRaCe on October 27, 2010

A recent blog post by RSC Wales reporting on the new Equality Act has excellent links to guidance notes and JISC TechDis information on equality in teaching resources.

Related articles we have come across which highlight other far reaching consequences of the Act include those from Emplyment Law Watch on the implications for Compromise Agreements and articles highlighted by BBC Ouch discussing how the act could effect jobseekers with a disability or medical condition.

You can also find more guidance details here through the Government Equalities Office – including interim arrangements.

New E-Safety resources from Llandrillo Library

Posted by LibeRaCe on October 25, 2010

This week we uploaded the new E-Safety resources and guides on to Moodle and delivered the first students and staff sessions. Eye opening for all involved !

You can also access the resources here tell us what you think….

Library staff have been reviewing and collating a wide range of e-safety material available online over the past few months. This has be collected and presented in a new way by breaking the units into 5, 10 and 30 minute sessions. This makes it easier for staff to explore the material themselves in their own time, but also makes it easier to include the training in class time without causing major timetabling problems.

You can also check out the library delicious feed for loads more regularly updated e-safety content. Becoming web-aware, knowing about safer social networking and understanding how to manage your digital footprint are vital life skills that all students (and staff and adults and children) should know about.

Llandrillo Library – Grand Designs (OK, not quite)

Posted by LibeRaCe on September 13, 2010

A warm welcome to all our new and returning students this year!

We’ve made a few changes to the library since you’ve been away – all designed to make it a more accessible space and easier for you find what you need.

Finding Resources

New Quick Reference Shelf Signage

(includes the main shelf number and some cover art of the recommended texts from your reading lists)

Keep an eye out for these little beggars popping up around the library. These are QR codes and if you have a smart phone and the right app, you can take a photo of the image and it will lead to you the catalogue or a book review or a website or ….. well you never know.

New Study Layout

Canny observers will notice that we’ve moved the study section lock, stock and carell to the other end of the library. Now you’ll be nearer the enquiry desks, resources and catalogue (and, ok fair enough, we’ll be able to keep a better eye on the messers. I know, we spoil all your fun)

New Information Point

We have been blessed with a new fancy schmantzy TV and we’ll use it to screen library induction information, answers to your FAQ’s, advtertise new stock and all manner of other useful info. We’ve also added a lot of new graphic novel and manga titles this year and you’ll find them in this area too. All the books aren’t just on the shelves to make the place look pretty – they are for you to read and borrow, so get in there an make a mess.
